IFTTT Recipes for Streamlining Your Daily Tasks on iOS

Posted on July 21, 2023 by HowTo.help

IFTTT (If This, Then That) is a popular automation tool that allows you to connect different apps and services to create automated tasks, known as recipes. These recipes can help streamline your daily tasks on iOS by automating repetitive actions and saving you time. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of creating IFTTT recipes on your iOS device.

Step 1: Download and Install the IFTTT App

Start by downloading the IFTTT app from the App Store if you don't already have it installed on your iOS device. Once downloaded, open the app and sign in or create a new account to get started.

Step 2: Explore Available Services

On the main screen of the app, tap on "Services" at the bottom. Here, you will find a list of various services that are compatible with IFTTT. These include popular apps like Gmail, Spotify, Twitter, iCloud Reminders, Philips Hue lights, and many more. Browse through these services to find ones that you use often or would like to automate.

Step 3: Connect Apps with IFTTT

To create a recipe using specific apps or services from Step 2 above:

1. Tap on a service of your choice.
2. Follow any prompts provided by IFTTT to connect it with your account for that service.
3. Grant necessary permissions for data access if prompted (e.g., accessing contacts or calendars).
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for other relevant services.

Once connected successfully with various services under "Services," return to the main screen.

Step 4: Create Your First Recipe

1. Tap on "Your Applets" at the bottom.
2.Tap on "+this" which stands for selecting a trigger service/app.
3.Select one of your connected services as per what triggers/starts an action/task in your desired recipe (e.g., "Gmail").
4.Select the specific trigger/event for your recipe (e.g., "New email in inbox").
5.Tap on "+that" which stands for selecting an action service/app.
6.Choose another connected app/service that will perform an action as a result of the trigger (e.g., "iOS Reminders").
7.Select the specific action/task you want to happen when the trigger occurs (e.g., "Create a reminder with email subject and body").
8. Customize any available options or fields within that action/task if required.
9. Tap on "Continue" at the bottom, review your recipe, and tap on "Finish."

Congratulations! You have created your first IFTTT recipe.

Step 5: Explore Advanced Recipe Options

IFTTT offers additional options to enhance and personalize your recipes:

1. Tap on an existing recipe under "Your Applets."
2. Click on the gear icon in the top-right corner to access more advanced settings for that particular recipe.
3. Here, you can modify various aspects of your recipe, such as triggering only during certain times or days of the week, adding filters or conditions before an action is performed, etc.

Step 6: Discover Popular Recipes

If you're looking for inspiration or pre-built recipes created by other users:

1. Tap on "Discover" at the bottom.
2. Browse through popular recipes across different categories like productivity, health & fitness, smart home automation, etc.
3. When you find a recipe you like:
- Read its description,
- Enable it if desired,
- Customize any available options relevant to that recipe,
- Tap on "Turn On" to activate it.

Remember to experiment with different recipes and customize them according to your needs.

Step 7: Manage Your Recipes

You can view all of your active/running recipes under "Your Applets." From here:

- Disable any unwanted recipes by tapping their toggle switch.
- Delete a recipe by swiping left on it and tapping "Delete."

Note: When creating or modifying recipes, ensure that you review permissions, privacy settings, and any potential impacts on your data security.

That's it! You're now equipped with the knowledge to create IFTTT recipes on iOS to automate various tasks seamlessly. Enjoy the convenience of streamlining your daily routines with this powerful automation tool.
